An outstanding supercapacitor electrode material, NiCo2O4/carbon aerogel composite, is developed that exhibits an ultrahigh specific capacitance. The success is made possible by the fuller utilization of NiCo2O4, enabled by using highly conductive mesoporous carbon aerogels as the hosting matrix and the successful creation of an ultrathin NiCo2O4 nanostructure on the backbone of the matrix through a two-step wet chemistry process.
