One-dimensional defects created in TiO2 single crystals by uniaxial pressure strongly increase the conductivity parallel to the formed dislocations (at oxygen partial pressures from 10−5 bar to 1 bar) and even change the type from predominantly electronic to ionic. This can be explained by the accumulation of positive point defects in space charge zones adjacent to negatively charged dislocation cores.
