Polystyrene nanospheres are employed simultaneously as the template for creating hollow interiors and as the carrier for bringing noble metal nanocrystals in mesoporous metal oxide microspheres. The preparation relies on aerosol spray-assisted assembly. The Pd nanocube-embedded hollow mesoporous ZrO2 microspheres exhibit much better catalytic performances than a commercial Pd/C catalyst.
