Different thicknesses of TiO2 are deposited by atomic layer deposition on SiO2 mesoporous templates and a critical thickness for the efficient collection of the photogenerated charge carriers in dye-sensitized solar cells is identified. An alternative photoanode with one order of magnitude higher transport rate compared to the conventional nanoparticle titanium dioxide mesoporous films is presented.
