3D hierarchical ZnCo2O4 twin spheres are prepared via a convenient polyol process and subsequent thermal annealing. A multistep splitting in situ dissolution recrystallization originating from 1D nanorods is first proposed to understand the formation of the 3D nanoarchitectures. Lithium-ion batteries prepared with the 3D materials display remarkable performance in energy storage.
