Inverse opal scaffolds with a set of different pore sizes are used to study neovascularization in vivo. While scaffolds with pore sizes <200 μm favor the formation of small blood vessels at high densities close to the surfaces, large blood vessels at low densities and deep penetration depth develop in the scaffolds with pore sizes >200 μm.
