Playing a central role in the development of gram-negative sepsis, endotoxins are attractive therapeutic targets. However, their direct removal from protein-rich fluids remains challenging. This article presents a magnetic separation-based approach using polymyxin B-functionalized metal nanomagnets to eliminate endotoxin from human blood in vitro. Functional assays show an attenuated inflammatory response from human endothelial cells and less chemotactic activity in purified samples.
