Layer-by-layer films composed of glycol-modified chitosan and hyaluronic acid are an attractive new candidate for tissue engineering applications. Here, they coat 3D polymeric scaffolds, resulting in enhanced in vitro tissue growth, and enable scaffold-based gene delivery. This work also utilizes novel techniques for assessing tissue growth and viability, including dielectric impedance spectroscopy and optical coherence phase microscopy.
