Nanoporous membranes with ordered morphology are of interest for potential applications in various fields of nanoscience, including the templated synthesis of oriented nanowires, or the controlled separation and release of molecules. This review focuses on the synthesis strategies, mesophase evolution mechanisms and potential applications of mesoporous materials (e.g., silica, titania, and carbon) confined within anodic alumina membranes (AAM).
