Fluoride rare-earth-doped upconversion micro-barcodes are developed for multiplexed signaling and nucleic-acid encoding. As reported on page 3775 by Fan Zhang, Galen D. Stucky, and co-workers, this type of novel barcode material can be used for rapid and sensitive analysis of nucleic acids and antigens and will have many potential applications in clinical, food, and environmental detection.
