Real-time, sensitive and specific analysis of gene transcription: The interactions between promoter and RNA polymerase that lead to gene transcription are monitored using Rayleigh light scattering of gold nanoparticle. We can simply detect which base pair of point-mutated promoter is important for the specific recognition by RNA polymerase. This is the first attempt to analyze transcription activity, based on the optical property of single gold nanoparticle.
