Organic/metal nanowire heterojunctions are prepared via site-specific nucleation and growth of organic molecules on the ends of silver nanowires. Yong Sheng Zhao and co-workers show on page 5681 that the formation of exciton polaritons in organic nanowires under excitation greatly improves the plasmon launch efficiency due to the direct photon-plasmon coupling, which is described as the clasping of the left and right hands in the cover image. The scattering of plasmons at the metal wire tip can be modulated efficiently in such structures. These organic/metal nanowire junctions are potentially applied in integrated photonic circuits as underlying Boolean logic gates.
