A new strategy to synthesize nanoparticles with enhanced cellular delivery efficiency is presented by Chengzhong Yu and co-workers on page 6233. Silica nanoparticles mimicking virus surface topography exhibit increased cellular uptake performance and improved binding capacity towards biomolecules (e.g., genetic molecules, proteins); thus the cellular delivery performance can be improved. This understanding is important in the rational design of new cellular delivery vectors for a range of bioapplications.
