A broadband metamaterial presenting negative indices across hundreds of nanometers in the visible and near-infrared spectral regimes is demonstrated theoretically. Transformation optics techniques are used to conformally map a plasmonic waveguide to a split-ring-resonator-type structure that supports degenerate electric and magnetic dipoles. A periodic array of such resonators exhibits broadband negative refractive indices confirmed through both phase and refraction simulations.
