Highly efficient IR quantum cutting is obtained in a silicon-based matrix in an excess of nitrogen with a Tb3+–Yb3+ system, paving the way for further improvement of current solar cell efficiency and for a very low production cost. The dynamic photoluminescence measurements reveal a high quantum efficiency of 183%, giving an additional external quantum efficiency estimated at almost 2%.
