Monochromatic colors with facile tunability are achieved by a creating a nanohole array with volcano-shaped holes, fabricated by a simple colloidal lithography method. The monochromatic colors show sensitive responses to environmental changes, which results from a unique surface plasmon resonance process. The nanovolcano arrays are believed to offer great potential for low-cost and efficient optical applications.
