Organic microcavities in the ultrastrong exciton–photon coupling regime are demonstrated. The ambipolar semiconductor TDAF is sandwiched between metal mirrors to achieve microcavities with giant Rabi splittings of ∼1 eV. The results are interpreted using the full Hopfield Hamiltonian. This formalism predicts a virtual photon content of ∼107 cm-2 in the system ground state.
