Crystalline Nb2O5 nanoparticles exhibit a significantly greater amount of lithium ion storage than amorphous Nb2O5. The mechanism of charge storage in nonaqueous electrolyte involves fast faradaic reactions associated with lithium ion insertion in the material. Charge storage is highly dependent upon the size of the electrolyte ion; no significant capacity occurs when using a sodium ion electrolyte.
