We study the deep trap carrier population in organic solar cells based on a novel TPD-based co-polymer using a combination of transient measurements; transient photoconductivity and pulsed optical bias photoconductivity. We estimate the number of long-lived charge carriers present in the device on timescales ≥ 100 μs to be 1015 cm−3. For the same studies on P3HT based devices, no long-lived carrier population is observed. We propose this is consistent with P3HT being intrinsically more doped, due to its higher lying highest occupied molecular energy level.
