The lamination of P3HT and PCBM thin films at the electron- and hole-collecting interfaces, respectively, in bulk-heterojunction polymer solar cells disrupts Jsc to different extents. The presence of a broad distribution of tail states in P3HT facilitates recombination at the electron-collecting interface and subsequent injection of holes from the cathode; devices having P3HT at the electron-collecting interface can thus maintain high Jsc.
