Photoinduced electron transfer in organic donor-acceptor blends consisting of PF10TBT and different fullerene derivatives only occurs efficiently when the free energy for charge transfer (ΔGET) is more negative than −0.1 eV. This criterion limits the chemical potential at open circuit of bulk heterojunction organic solar cells to about 0.6 eV below the optical bandgap for presently known blends of molecular materials.
