A high open-circuit voltage of 0.945 V and an efficiency over 7% is demonstrated in PBDTTPD:PCBM bulk heterojunction devices, making them ideal for tandem devices. The voltage is raised above 1 V using multiadduct fullerenes, but the current is reduced and recombination of fullerene excitons is observed, suggesting that the voltage of polymer:fullerene devices may be limited by the fullerene bandgap.
