New materials development can tremendously benefit the spread of thermoelectric technology for energy conversion applications. While inorganic materials currently have higher ZT values, significant improvements have been made in the thermoelectric properties of organic materials, which are low cost, abundant, non-toxic, scalable, light weight, and mechanically flexible. In particular, inorganic as well as inorganic/organic nanocomposites have shown great promise in enhancing ZT.
