The degradation mechanisms of LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 are investigated during cycling under high voltage conditions. The results indicate that the structural degradation occurs mainly on the surface of the materials where the phase transformation from rhombohedral to spinel is dominant. However, depending on the cutoff voltage, the formation of the rock salt phase can also occur, which is suspected to increase the charge transfer resistance
