Dipl.-Chem. Udo Kragl, Dr. Daniel Gygax, Dr. Oreste Ghisalba and Prof. Dr. Christian Wandrey Enzymatic Two-Step Synthesis of N-Acetyl-neuraminic Acid in the Enzyme Membrane Reactor Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English 30
The use of N-acetylglucosamine 2-epimerase from pig's liver together with N-acetylneuraminic aldolase leads to a particularly simple and effective process for the synthesis of N-acetylglucosamine (1) and α-pyruvic acid (3). The enzymes in homogeneous solution in the enzyme-membrane reactor catalyze the synthesis of N-acetylneuraminic acid (4) via 2 in a continuous process. The space–time yield is 109 gL−1 d−1.
