Directional self-assembly with both positional and orientational order has been achieved by the self-assembly of metal–organic framework (MOF) colloids. In their Communication on page 5638 ff., S. Granick and N. Yanai report the formation of well-defined clusters and hexagonal arrangements by directional facet-to-facet attraction between colloidal MOF crystals through simple van der Waals interactions. This general method may lead to the cross-fertilization of MOF and colloid sciences.
