Don′t spare the rod! A series of conjugated polymers containing the pentacyclic diindeno[1,2-b:2′,1′-d]thiophene unit was synthesized (see figure) and utilized as efficient photoactive p-type materials for organic photovoltaic devices. The arrangement of donor and acceptor units in the polymer backbone plays an important role in determining the molecular properties and device performance.
