Bipolar personalities: Spiro-configured bipolar compounds are excellent host materials for iridium- and osmium-based green and red electrophosphorescent devices. The device incorporating D2 ACN doped with the red osmium emitter gave a saturated red electrophosphorescence with CIE coordinates of (0.65, 0.35) and remarkably high efficiencies of 20.3 % (21 cd A−1) and 13.5 Lm W−1 at a practical brightness of 1000 cd m−2.
