Blood protein nanotubes: A nanocylindrical wall structure made by layer-by-layer assembly of poly-L-arginine and human serum albumin (HSA) was characterized by direct imaging methods. SEM and SFM measurements yielded images of round, chimney-like architectures. Cryo-TEM pictures revealed that the tube walls are composed of densely packed HSA molecules. The protein cylinders are considerably swollen in water and showed esterase activity.
