A ligand that displays intense blue luminescence was selected to construct four new Ln–Cd metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Tunable luminescence was successfully achieved by co-doping different ratios of Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions in the Gd–Cd or Pr–Cd MOFs. The relative emission intensity of white light for Gd–Cd:Eu3+,Tb3+ MOFs is stronger than that of Pr–Cd:Eu3+,Tb3+ MOFs.
