The study of physiology by computational means generates a wealth of potentially shareable resources such as data and models at multiple levels from organism down to organ and subcellular process, as illustrated here for the endocrinology of atrial natriuretic peptide release. In this perspective article, we outline our vision for the application of community-based modeling standards in support of an automated integration of models across physiological systems and scales.
