Promoter engineering for metabolic engineering applications. Metabolic engineering applications have long relied on effective promoter utilization to control transcript production and metabolic flux. This review highlights recent advances and approaches for altering gene expression control at the promoter level through promoter engineering. Promoter engineering techniques have shown great promise both in expanding the cell-wide transcriptional capacity of an organism and in enabling tunable levels of gene expression.
