In vivo investigations in aqueous environments: The green macroalga Caulerpa taxifolia uses a remarkable repair strategy against cytoplasmatic loss after wounding. The chemical properties of the immediately formed wound plug were investigated in vivo and in a label-free manner by FT-Raman spectroscopy. Four chemically different zones were identified, and gradients of different compounds within the injured zone could be observed.
