An olive branch for lignin: Depolymerization of lignin from olive tree pruning waste is investigated with hydrogendonating solvents in a mild, microwaveassisted, hydrogen-free, hydrogenolytic approach. Bio-oil, biochar, and residual lignin products are characterized to evaluate the extension of the hydrogenolytic process; the products are affected by the type of solvent used, with the best results obtained in formic acid.
