Promiscuous­ Bacillus­ esterase: The promiscuous amidase activity of a Bacillus subtilis esterase is increased significantly through the formation of a π–π network by combining techniques of rational design and directed evolution. The amidase activity enhancement is observed with both aromatic and aliphatic substrates, which underlines the fact that the beneficial effect is irrelevant of the model substrate.
