Biocatalysis in teabags: For the modularization of synthetic enzyme cascades, teabag-like containers are filled with lyophilised whole-cell catalyst. The bags are tight, recyclable, and easy-to-prepare and handle. Applied in a micro-aqueous system enabling high substrate loadings, stereoselective synthesis of diols was accomplished with high product concentrations and simplified catalyst and product separation.
