All that glitters: Nanostructured materials are very interesting for fundamental studies in heterogeneous catalysis, since they offer the possibility to study catalytic properties via defined control of the structure of the catalysts. We have synthesized gold yolk-shell materials as model catalysts for the investigation of size and support effects in CO oxidation (see figure).
