Zinc again! A new isoreticular series of zinc–organic frameworks based on imidazolate-4-amide-5-imidate (IFP-1–4, IFP=imidazolate framework Potsdam) that form 1D microporous hexagonal channels were obtained by using an in situ linker synthesis with 4,5-dicyanoimidazole. Changing R (Me, Cl, Br, Et) in the 2-position of the linker precursor allows tuning of the channel diameter (4.0–1.7 Å) and the functionality of the channel walls.
