Everything clicks into place: Two series of 4- and 5-tetrathiafulvalenyl-1,2,3-triazoles were synthesized as multifunctional ligands and precursors for molecular materials by using Cu- or Ru-based “click” chemistry. The electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of these ligands were determined, compared, and supported by DFT calculations. Octahedral CuII complexes were also prepared and shown to be valuable precursors for paramagnetic molecular conductors (see figure).
