Glow in the dark: Two hybrids based on 1,8-disubstituted carbazole with a twist structure were designed and synthesized. Blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting devices (PhOLEDs) containing benzimidazole units exhibited a similar performance to a similarly structured device based on the mCP host (mCP = N,N′-dicarbazoyl-3,5-benzene). Green PhOLEDs employing the new host material 1,8-OXDCz exhibited an ideal turn-on voltage (2.5 V at 1.58 cd m−2), a maximum current efficiency of 73.9 cd A−1, and a power efficiency of 89.7 lm W−1 (see figure).
