MnV[DOUBLE BOND]O versus MnIII[BOND]OOR: Three active oxidants (MnV[DOUBLE BOND]O, MnIV[DOUBLE BOND]O, and MnIII[BOND]OOR) operate simultaneously in Mn(porphyrin)–complex-catalyzed oxidation reactions. The participation of the active oxidants is remarkably influenced by the solvent polarity, the concentration and type of substrate, and the porphyrin ligands (see figure).
