Aldehydes as a shuttle for H transfer: One equivalent each of CO2Me-substituted alkynes (DMAD: dimethyl acetylenecarboxylate, MP: methyl propiolate) and aldehydes (both aromatic and aliphatic) undergo oxidative coupling to IrI compounds to form hydride–iridafurans (see scheme). This process is assisted by a second molecule of aldehyde, which acts as a shuttle for the aldehyde H atom.
