Bound to change: The synthesis of the Forssman antigen pentasaccharides based on two one-pot two-step glycosylations and polymer-assisted deprotection is described. The synthetic oligosaccharides bind to the lectin SLL-2 and inhibit the morphological changes of Symbiodinium by SLL-2. In addition, the Forssman antigen pentasaccharides were found to directly promote the morphological change in Symbiodinium (see figure).
