Magnetic nanotubes formed with magnesium silicate (γ-Fe2O3@MgSNTs) were produced by a well-controlled programmed synthesis from carbon nanotubes (CNTs, see scheme). The nanotubes show high adsorption capacities for PbII and CdII. An ion-exchange mechanism between the MgII ions and PbII or CdII ions was proposed and confirmed.
