Mechanical stress exerted on transfected CHO suspension cells by reusable and single-use magnetically levitated centrifugal-type pumps was investigated. Cell densities and viabilities were compared with data from a peristaltic and a 4-piston diaphragm pump. Considerably lower cell death rates were detected when using the centrifugal-type pumps.
