The reduction of CO2 emission and storage of renewable energy are actually unsolved tasks. A multi-stage process consisting of hydrogen generation by water electrolysis, CO2 hydrogenation to produce CO and subsequent Fischer-Tropsch synthesis may help to solve this problem. Energy storage in form of liquid hydrocarbons and usage of CO2 as feedstock are combined in this process.
