Upon conjugation of Gd3+ complex of DOTA-NCSA with the modified polysaccharide inulin (L-API), the longitudinal relaxivity increases from 4.1 to 21.7 s−1 m m−1 at 20 MHz and 37 °C, thanks to efficient slowing down of the molecular tumbling of the Gd-chelate by the inulin carrier. The resulting conjugate shows an extremely high kinetic stability. No transmetalation with Zn2+ ions was observed.
