William B. Grant An estimate of premature cancer mortality in the U.S. due to inadequate doses of solar ultraviolet-B radiation Cancer 94

Version of Record online: 15 MAR 2002 | DOI: 10.1002/cncr.10427

The relation between solar ultraviolet (UV)-B exposure in July and cancer mortality rates for state economic areas in the U.S. between 1970–1994 was determined using regression analysis. Inverse correlations were found to exist between solar UV-B radiation and 13 types of cancer. Lack of sufficient solar UV-B radiation may account for 23,600 premature cancer deaths each year.
