Thick nodular melanoma was found to be more common in individuals who had not had a physician skin examination in the previous 3 years and among those who discovered their own lesions, rather than having them detected by a physician. More frequent clinician examinations and skin self-examinations by trained, high-risk individuals may contribute to the reduction of thick, rapidly growing melanoma.
