Although BRCA mutations in breast-pancreas cancer families have been observed, the influence of a family history of pancreatic cancer on the prevalence of BRCA mutations in patients with breast cancer is unknown. BRCA mutations were identified in 14% of Ashkenazi Jewish breast-pancreas cancer families, with nearly equal distribution noted between BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers.
